    About the Marigold Stone

The Marigold Stone is located in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal. In the past (c.500-1200) Carndonagh was a monastic centre of learning due to its links with St Patrick and St Columba. It was a place of pilgrimage, particularly celebrated on the feast days of the saints. Seeking spirituality through fasting, penance and prayer, the pilgrims would follow a prescribed route. Pillar stones and crosses were made to mark the significant points on these routes and the Marigold Stone is one example.
