    About the Titanic

The RMS Titanic, built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast was the largest ship afloat at the time she entered service and was the second of three Olympic-class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line. In the early morning of 15 April 1912, four days into the ship’s maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City, with an estimated 2,224 people on board, she struck an iceberg. Two hours later she sank in the North Atlantic Ocean, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,500 people, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.
