Olive skin has a bit of yellow and greenish-gray hue, and this is why it’s unique. A lighter olive skin has neutral to warm tones which works with any colour scheme while darker olive skin suits warmer colours.
Choosing the right gem is difficult as there’s so many possibilities. Selecting which gems most complement your colouring can be good way to start.
Your skin tone will generally fall into one of two categories – cool or warm and the simplest way to know which skin type you are is to look at the colour of the veins on the inside of your wrist.
People with cooler skin tones have bluish coloured veins. This includes those with blue or grey eyes who are naturally pale with pinkish undertones and are prone to burning. Dark and tan complexions can also have cooler skin pigments with pinkish or rosy-red undertones. Clothing in either pale pastel or bright jewel tones will appeal to you.
Cooler-toned skin shows off white metals such as platinum, silver and white gold beautifully. When it comes to gems, all shades of blue will work – such as aquamarine, blue sapphire, blue topaz. Also consider all shades of amethyst, ruby, emerald, opal, tourmaline and tanzanite, pink morganite and white or grey pearls.
People with warmer skin tones have greenish coloured veins. Warmer skin tones have yellow or peachy undertones and eyes are likely to be brown or hazel. Your hair may have red or golden undertones and clothing in earthy colours is very flattering.
Warmer-toned skin looks fabulous with yellow or rose gold. Warm-hued gemstones, such as citrine, garnet, peach-toned morganite, tsavorite garnet, mandarin garnet, green tourmaline, peridot, ruby, smoky quartz and any warm-toned sapphires will be a flattering choice. Peach or yellow-toned pearls also suit.
Containing elements of both warm and cool tones, neutral skin tones will contrast perfectly with all colour schemes. The gemstone options are endless with this skin type.

These examples may give you ideas, but don’t be afraid to experiment. Your choice should be made from the heart rather than the head. At the end of the day, what really matters is that you feel wonderful in whatever you wear. And don’t forget, there’s always diamonds, the neutral gemstone which suits everyone.
